We had been working all season on this triumphant symphony looking forward to combining with Utah State Symphony and Edicson Ruiz of the Berlin Philharmonic. The day before our concert, director Kayson Brown received a call as he was walking into rehearsal. The concert venue was closing down immediately due to the spread of the Coronavirus. Within a few days, the remainder of our season was cancelled or postponed. Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2 has an uncoquerable spirit, something this video captures as the students refused to be silenced by the pandemic. Students recorded their individual parts to a guide track safely from their homes. When the pandemic temporarily subsided in August of 2020, the students combined to present the full symphony at a rescheduled performance at the Thanksgiving Point Amphitheater.
