Hymn to the Innocent
The high school students who made this September 11th tribute don’t have personal memories of 9/11/2001. Many of them were not even born yet! For many of today’s youth, September 11th, 2001 is an event in a history book. They may have to answer a question about it on a test or participate in a moment of silence, but it’s difficult to come to understand the feeling of how it changed our nation. Making this video helped to write on their hearts the reverence and patriotism that reflects the best part of what came out of those tragedies. We attempted to capture some of what that day was like — not so much the events but the feeling. The uncertainty and shock; the vulnerability and the courage it took to go on with life in a new “normal.” As we pushed through the emotional recording process, tears were shed, there was a spirit of reverence for the innocent lives lost. The education of the heart is something that music has a unique ability to accomplish — especially with youth. September 11th, 2001 is no longer just a date in a history book to these teens and as a result they strive to “be an influence for good in this world.” They encourage you to do the same.
